By Crosbie & Sterling
I have been treating eating disorders for over 40 years, working in both inpatient and outpatient settings and specializing in treating both eating disorder sufferers and their families. In addition, I have worked in behavioral medicine, working with individuals and their families as they navigate the intersection of physical and mental illness, grief, and life transitions.
I served as the clinical and administrative lead for the Adult Eating Disorder Treatment Program at Oakland Kaiser, as well as holding the position of Best Practices Chair for Eating Disorders for Northern California Kaiser. I developed, implemented and manualized several group programs (DBT, ACT) as well as established an eating disorder medical clinic in the department of medicine to treat patients needing urgent medical care. I was responsible for participating in writing and updating Best Practices recommendations, developing training programs, organizing conferences for evidenced-based eating disorder treatments, facilitating a weekly advisory panel for providers to consult on difficult cases, piloting technologies to use with eating disorder clients, and developing procedures to measure outcomes. I also wrote a training manual for new providers to the field of eating disorders (“Mistakes and Missteps in Working with Eating Disorder Patients and Strategies for Clinicians to Manage Them”) as well as being a chapter contributor.
Seeking therapy usually comes at time of change or upset, and my goal is to offer a safe, warm, collaborative and supportive environment in which to help you better understand your circumstances and begin to identify ways to feel better, cope better, or make changes for the better.
All my appointments are virtual at this time. Typically, after the initial assessment, therapy consists of a weekly 50-minute session, but this can vary depending on needs. Duration of therapy also is highly dependent on each client's circumstances and goals. Currently, my practice is primarily virtual.
The first step is usually sending an email or making a complimentary phone call appointment to discuss your particular situation. Both my voicemail and email are confidential. I return phone calls Monday-Friday, during regular business hours. Weekend calls are returned on Monday. Email is often a faster response time.
As I am frequently unable to take on new clients for treatment, I offer parents/caregivers of eating disorder sufferers a one-time consultation to help orient to treatment options and resources.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, or at any time during treatment.
